Because protecting nature also means protecting those who depend on it, at HUMY, every action links the protection of biodiversity to a concrete improvement in the living conditions of local communities.
Taking action to protect biodiversity and people
Protecting biodiversity by helping people
HUMY is an international solidarity organisation created in 2006. Our association aims to take action to protect the environment through co-development.
Humy works with a network of local partners to co-construct solutions to improve living conditions for local populations. HUMY promotes a global, integrated approach that places environmental issues at the heart of human development challenges in natural sites recognised as global biodiversity hotspots. The term HUMY (HUMan and biodiversitY) sums up the challenges faced by our NGO.
The association is now involved in in 6 countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Colombia, Indonesia, Madagascar)

Our values
Solidarity and conscience
Faced with increasing environmental degradation and its harmful impact on biodiversity worldwide, HUMY has decided to act in favour of biodiversity, for the planet and local populations.
Determination
The HUMY teams go out into the field, meet local people, raise environmental and social issues and then raise the funds needed to take action to help biodiversity and local people.
Cooperation
HUMY is an organisation that implements projects, in partnership with local associations and the populations concerned, to protect biodiversity while promoting social progress.
Courage
HUMY's commitment is part of a strong operational dimension to deal with all constraints on the ground and provide sustainable solutions accepted by all.
Transmission
In order to develop sustainable projects, HUMY works with its local partners and local communities to ensure that the projects are self-sustaining.
Community
HUMY, its volunteers, members and donors make a real commitment in the field and are proud to express loud and clear the values defended by the association.

Our partners premises

In each area where it operates, HUMY systematically works in partnership with a locally-based organisation and supports them in the development of their activities.
To maximise the impact, each partner is carefully selected and supported over several years until the financial and technical autonomy of local communities is acquired. By combining their knowledge of the areas in which they work with our expertise, we can work together to build a conservation strategy that is tailored to the situation.

Testimonials
The floor is given to those who are actively involved in the projects, helping to protect biodiversity and improve living conditions for local communities.
«Eleven years of action in Benin, eight years of intervention in Tanguiéta and soon four years of collaboration with Humy, I can, in my capacity as president of the NGO Ecodec, testify to the willingness of this association to encourage and support sustainable grassroots development in Benin. The dynamism of Humy's team in mobilising resources and transferring them to local partner associations, in this case Ecodec, has substantially improved the incomes of more than 500 farmers (in the communes of Matéri and Tanguiéta) through the «Agroforestry» project, by improving agricultural yields and selling timber, and contributing to the regeneration of plant cover, which is in serious decline in this geographical area of the country. Its financial support will also have contributed to the financial empowerment of women, through support for women's groups, and enabled several children from very poor households to study thanks to the «school sponsorship» programme.»
«I was ashamed to be the only woman doing this in my area of Tanguiéta. But at the training course, the instructors and our trainer, Mr Wahabou, encouraged me and reinforced my taste for the activity. I'm very happy, and with my husband we've become a couple of nurserymen and market gardeners thanks to Humy's support».»
«I'd been doing the nursery and small vegetable garden for a few years. Self-taught, I dreamed of being trained by a nurseryman, but I couldn't afford the training. I was delighted to be selected by Ecodec and its partner Humy to take the course in Tanguiéta. I'm really happy about it, and my business has taken on a whole new dimension.»
«For several years now, I have been supporting HUMY, which implements global sustainable development programmes for populations living in some of the most deprived areas in the world. HUMY provides these communities not with charity, but with the tools they need to create a future for themselves.»
